Electric Power Steering

The Electric Power Steering only activates when it’s needed: when you're turning the wheel. The energy it requires has previously been extracted by Brake Energy Regeneration from the braking and kinetic energy.
This element of BMW EfficientDynamics replaces the conventional hydraulic power-steering system with an electric motor. While hydraulic systems constantly draw power from the engine – thereby consuming extra fuel – the innovative BMW system only springs into action when it's actually needed. If you don't move the steering wheel (on a straight, for example, or on a steady curve) the electric motor remains inactive, reducing power consumption.

8-Speed Automatic Transmission Steptronic

The most dynamic and comfortable way to save: the only eight-speed automatic transmission in the compact class not only ensures incredibly soft changes and reduces background noise at high speeds, but also significantly reduces fuel consumption.
At high speeds the engine revs drop due to the additional gears, thus decreasing fuel consumption and also engine noise. The system is assisted by the newly developed and more efficient converter clutch – even if you use the electronic gearshift lever to change gear manually.

Auto Start Stop function

This service provides you with a wide range of information, entertainment and service features on the road; which include BMW Online, which gives you access to current, localized information such as weather, news, online search and also office functions. It is also possible to put together individualized services such as webcams, parking information and travel or hotel guides.

Real Time Traffic Information.

It provides you with the most up-to-date traffic information at all times and it gives actual details of the time and duration of holdups.
The data is drawn from such sources as movement profiles from the mobile phone network, the GPS data of vehicle fleets, smartphone apps and police reports. This data is analysed so precisely that it is possible to localise traffic congestion to the nearest 500 metres. This enables RTTI to provide information in real time on the current traffic situation on motorways, main roads, country roads and numerous urban routes, as well as recommending sound alternative routes. RTTI is only available in conjunction with ConnectedDrive Services and a BMW navigation system.

Park Assistant.

The optional Park Assistant from BMW Connected Drive provides you with support when searching for parking spaces. And helps you to manoeuvre safely and conveniently into parking spaces parallel to the direction of travel.

At a speed of up to 35 km/h, ultrasonic sensors in the side of the front wheel arch search for a suitable parking space (vehicle length plus approx. 1.5 metres), allowing you to keep concentrating on the traffic. Blue arrows in the Control Display indicate if a parking space is available either on the left or the right side of the road.

A camera monitors the surroundings and warn the driver of lane changes and vehicles coming too close.The camera positioned at the front of the vehicle steers the Lane Departure Warning system. When travelling above 70 km/h, the system monitors road markings and their position versus the car as well as the edge of the road or lane. The system is activated whenever the vehicle leaves its current lane unintentionally and alerts the driver by making the steering wheel vibrate.
